Title: Underrated Games
Post by: Ven on November 06, 2015, 01:28:24 am
There are many, many games that have been released and that are going to be released. As such, not every game can been known. Sadly this means that some good (some even great) games and franchises don't get the attention they deserve. So let me change that. In this topic you discuss about your favorite, lesser known games that you think should get  more love. The games can be from any genre, released at any year on any console. The only limit is that you think the game should get more love than its currently getting

The pokemon ranger games indeed are underrated. I played the first two and enjoyed them. Not my favorite games (not even my favorite Pokemon spinoffs) but still good games nonthless

Super Paper Mario. Obviously not going to be underrated here since haters wouldn't sign up for a forum named after it. But in general I find it underrated.

I also second Wario: Master of Disguise. Haven't beaten it but damn the music is awesome. And I like that it has a decent plot.

I personally liked Super Paper Mario. It was different yes, but it was still a good game with own charm . I havent played Wario: Master of Disguise so cant say much about that onr

If you ask me I find the Densetsu no Stafy series in general to be undertated especially the third game (my personal favorite). I also would say that games such as Tomato Adventure (aka the Mario and Luigi prototype game), Live A Live, For the frog tolls and Code Name S.T.E.A.M. as well as the Rune Factory franchise are underrated but thats just me as I understand why these games are underrated

I've only played the Legendary Starfy and I too find it underrated.

Yeah the legendary Starfy was the only one released in the west wasnt it? It is a good game, even if I think its the weakest out of the five Starfy games.

Regardless I find the whole Starfy series (especially Densetsu no Stafy 3) to be criminally underrated. I really wish that the first four games were released outside Japan or at least had fantranslations not unlike MOTHER 3

I liked Super Paper Mario. Not as godly as the other Mario RPGs, but I still found it quite enjoyable. It kept the same trend of memorable characters and environments the other Mario RPGs pertained. Not to mention playing as Bowser was both awesome and hilarious!
I'm starting to get tired of all the needless defense though. I haven't even seen anybody who actually hates Super Paper Mario. And apparently nobody notices that Sticker Star gets too much hate???

Also Paper Mario 64 doesn't get much attention. Could just be my nostalgia.

Aside from the Paper Mario games, I find EarthBound Beginnings, Metroid II, Mother 3 because not enough people say it's the best game ever, and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes underrated.

I haven't even seen anybody who actually hates Super Paper Mario.
There aren't many around this community, but on GameFAQs there's several. One of them is on Mario RPG Boards too. I don't mind people who dislike the game, but most of them also say Sticker Star is a "huge step up" which I can't help but think is just blatantly false.'

There's also the pre-Sticker Star days, when the general consensus was that SPM was the weakest of the three.

Soup Paypal Mayro isn't that great. I'm not fond of it either. Its story is crappy and its NPC design is a geometric travesty. I haven't played Super Paper Mario, but I hate it for personal MarioWiki-related reasons. MarioWiki historically had exaggerated melodramatic crap that used to stand for good writing, but Soup Paypal Mayro is that game where people write its plot synopsis and I don't know if they're just summarizing it or adulterating it to make it sound dramatic. If I had to choose between Toads and a bunch of boxes, I think I'd just stick with Toads.

As for games I find underrated? The Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, at least on the professional critic side of things. Most critics aren't very impressed, and how they say it's repetitive or whatever, well, I don't agree. I also think the games have a ton of replay value, have an addicting quality, and they're more interesting than the mainline games because the combat is more involved. Not to mention, each successive game bar Gates to Infinity has overall improved the gameplay and nobody really notes this, which is kind of sad since some blatant rehashes like Super Mario Galaxy 2 do hardly anything different and still gets 95s across the board.

Paper Mario Sticker Star and Dead Space 3. Yo uknow, Paper Mario Sticker Star had great music and maybe the plot it wasn´t as brilliant as the TTYD one or the "Mario Story"[n64] one, but it gives you a new mechanic into the game and it goes difficult conform you continue the game. Dead Space 3 it wasn´t so on the horror-drama game as the second and the first one (being the second the best for me btw), but it have a good  Co-op thing, and also it have new and good suits, it let you  see how  serious as **** was the conflict about Government and Uniologist (and also how the Uniologist managed to maked the ir own Marker and that their leader was kinda smart and determined to follow his ideals), and you see how the character reacts on what is another strong issue and how he can be empathic with his partner Carver even if he was an **** at some part of the game
